VR Cinema: Short Films on Canvas

April 4 – 28, 2019
Phi Centre, Montreal

Nikita Shalenny

The VR Cinema hosted five virtual reality short films that make up the VR Museum, a project of the Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF). Breaking down the boundaries between digital art, cinema and painting, each VR experience comes alive and expresses itself to the spectators, allowing them to dive further into an imaginary and sensory universe that’s fed by the psyche of each painter.

Nikita Shalenny’s VR artwork The Bridge was selected as one of six works to be exhibited in the show. Based on black and white watercolours by the artist, The Bridge is a deeply evocative artwork through forests, oil fields, abandoned churches and infinite oceans.
